The design was based on architect Toivo Korhonen and architecture student Jaakko Laapotti’s winning entry ‘Taivaan valo’ in an architecture competition in 1957. The building was completed in 1969, two years after Lauritsala market town was incorporated to the City of Lappeenranta.
The plan of the church is a triangle. The raw concrete ceiling is made of slip-form construction. The roof partly has a glass cover. The windows on the altar wall go up to the tower.
The church is 47 metres tall, and there are seats for 670 persons.
