Extract from the Finnish Architecture 2010–2011 jury report:
“The building was originally designed by the brothers Jussi and Toivo Paatela and completed in 1928. The renovation by Käpy and Simo Paavilainen follows the original hierarchical principle of clarity and carefully considered detailing. The end result appeares effortless, but a great amount of wisdom and skill has gone into its design.”
