This exhibition tells of the Saarinens' shared years in the United States, during which Eliel become one of the leading figures in developing the Art Deco style, while his son Eero began to gain a reputation as a rising star of international modernism.

The 20th of August 2010 will mark the centenary of Eliel Saarinen's birth. Hvitträsk is celebrating the occasion by opening "Home is Where One's Work Is – Eliel and Eero Saarinen in the United States" on the10th of March 2010. This exhibition tells of the Saarinens' shared years in the United States, during which Eliel become one of the leading figures in developing the Art Deco style, while his son Eero began to gain a reputation as a rising star of international modernism. Father and son collaborated in the design of a number of buildings that have earned their place in the history of American architecture.

The collaboration of the Saarinens reveals the differences and similarities of the way of thinking of two different generations. Also on display at Hvitträsk are original drawings and plans by Eero Saarinen for the enlargement of the Swedish Theatre in Helsinki in the late 1930s. This was the first major architectural project in which the newly graduated Eero Saarinen participated.
